I cannot promise
To love you forevermore.
Only as long as
There is a you and an I,
Only so long will I love.

When the head says no
Yet the heart insists on yes,
The impossible
Finally yields to what is,
Souls united against odds.

oh, this is sooo Romantic, yes to following our hearts..

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Ellie - Thank you once again, sweet lady. We wouldn't be passionate poets if we let our heads win all the time, now would we?

David - Very kind, very sweet, and leaves me with a very big smile. Hope you had a good day, too!

Pegasus - Thanks. Hope your day was wonderful.

Gale - The odds are only a number. Glad you stopped by. Love your "woohoo" !

Lary - You have such a nice way with words, even in your responses! Thank you.

Gene - Thank you. I haven't done much with tanka yet, but it is an appealing form.

Javier - Thanks. It's always nice to hear from you.

This is great, reminds me of a line I once wrote, it would fit in your poem.

hi...i liked the way you developed your first tanka...you have me thinking that the speaker is somewhat heartless not to promise to love his/her lover forevermore and pleasantly surprised when i read the last two lines....

Melissa - Thank you. I'm a little surprised how many found the second one appealing, as I had my doubts about it. It's nice to hear what others see in my writing. It changes my perspective.

Kaile - Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I hadn't really thought of those first two lines as being heartless, but certainly did intend the twist. It's nice to have you here, again. If you ever really find me heartless, let me know.
