In these years of mine,
blessings have been many.
Disappointments an betrayal,
sadly, are old friends.
Easy to become a cynic,
or dwell on old remembrances,
like a rumanating crone.

But, alas, tis not to be!
for this heart beats ever young,
an incurable romantic.
My imagination, vivid and alive!

So time and troubles both
eludes my poets heart.
If dreamers are ever young,
I will stay but just a babe.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

I'll bring fresh bread!  Shall we meet at Ellie's house?  (I think she's too young to drive.   )  Ellie, I cannot possibly imagine you as a ruminating crone.  And there is no alas in being The incurable romantic that you are. It's what keeps you going and writing beautiful poetry, and it makes you... you!  hugs

Ellie,

I'd love to sit down with you also. I'm sure you could really teach me a lot about poetry. This is a beautiful poem one that touched me very deeply. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ellie.....

Yet another treasure from your heart...I shall bring some cookies....for it would be an honor to sit and reflect on life and poetry with such a unique and kind heart.

I feel this way, often, but I loved your ending better....
