you say that you love us
and want to see what we see;
we say we love--therefore
need to spare you knowledge of the tree,
a grime reality, the horrors of what war can be

you say that you love us
and want to know what we know,
we say we love--therefore
how can we risk showing you
the black marks on our souls
of what we have done, would do--could do,
in the name of honor? duty? sacrifice?. . .fear?

now, there is a dark window between us
an invisible pane,
where once we stood considering the view,
where you still stand,
from the other side of where we are
thinking that we would understand the pain,
can you not see?
that being there and being here
are not the same, just a mistaken insight,
a delusion, the shattering of illusion,
hands that tremble touch the dark pane
unable to reach yours forever in the rain
look into our eyes and clearly see
this is as close as we can be
in this slide-slip of our realities.

this piece is so good it's scary..you have outdone yourself this time..masterful, sensitive. it looks into the deepest heart of people with different perspectives of the same events...Bravo!!

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Wonderful poem.  The dark side offers the reader a lot to think about.  Wonderfully done.

ah peg, where would I be without you.

dawn, thanks for the read, guess I'm saying you can never really understand what is on the other side of the window, and Peg/I don't want you to.  Because that would mean that you were there.
