Gasping for breath,
Grasping at straws
And for a truth
That I know to be false.
I can't breathe through the pain,
Can't see through the tears.
I never lost my faith in you,
Never had a spiritual crisis,
But now the floodgates of doubt
Are thrown wide open,
And I'm swept away in the deluge.

What frightening truth
Did you expect to find in me?
Why keep your distance
From the once-man you broke,
Since you know me
To be harmless?
Do you cringe at your handiwork,
Or fear that I'll be spiteful
For your tortures?
Worry not for your sake--
There is no danger
In this wounded soul
That your callosed heart can't weather.

"If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing."

This is an excellent write, gofor, and the pain does come across well, but it leaves me wondering to whom it is addressed?  Human or divine?  Or perhaps the ambiguity is intentional?

To love another person is to see the face of God.
