I sit astride
Some sort of intellectual high horse,
Concerning myself with society's business,
While the next guy wonders
If he remembered to turn the oven off.
Where do I get off
Worrying about Fate and Choice?
Why do I care
If my life is predestined
Or if there's a God,
And if so,
What's He/She/It like?
Since when is it my business?
Philosophers, for all their genius,
Are complete fools--
For while the ignorant live in bliss,
We scratch out our tormented lives
Questioning our own purpose
Or existence.
Oh, to remain unaware
Of the bigger issues!
To only be concerned
With the small, simple pursuits.
To rid myself of these "deep thoughts"--
That would be a true marvel.

But ellie, I didn't make a concious choice to grow, it just slip up on me...lol.

gofor, well express thoughts, sometimes, I too, wish these deep thoughts of mine would just leave me alone...but, I have never felt as alive, as I have been feeling in past year.

Our words/thoughts are a double-edged sword...it hurts so good...LOL

Come on now, gofor!  Would you really give up the "deep thoughts"?  Yes, they can be troubling, but they also make life interesting, and as Ellie said, they bring growth.  I don't think you'd be happy confined to "small, simple pursuits".  Am I wrong?

There's no way I could give up the deep thoughts...kind of like trying to take back the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden...once you make the choice, it's permanent.

i related well to this piece..have you heard of the show "friends"?it never ceases to amaze me how simple-minded Joey and Phoebe can be and how contentedly happy they are in their small worlds...

i dont think i am that deep but then i will like to think that i am not that simple-minded...honestly speaking, sometimes i think i think too much for my own good

Oh, I already know I think too much, and it constantly gets me into trouble and self-doubt.
