As I lay here in the night, the bed warm and pillow soft on my face, Memories come and take me back, back to some childhood place. I look and see my Mothers smiling face, she is lovely to see, She is young, strong and her face is filled with love, as she looks at me. A tall man comes into view, who else but my Dad, how grand he looks, I still see him as he teaches me things, things you don't learn in a book. His leathery face has its usual grin as he looks at me, his hat pushed back, Together these two made a home for us, even though it was only a shack. How these memories fill my heart, I lie and whisper to them in my mind, They never answer, but their being there is Gods way of being kind. Though they have been gone these many years, he knows I can see, How hard they worked, how much sacrifice, went into moulding me. Softly they fade into my misty past, they seem to wave as they go, I hope that in their world, they can feel the love for them I know. I find it hard to leave this place, this place of softness and joy, But I must go, and as sleep calls I say goodnight, from your little boy. |
