The mountain loomed darkly over the land
Obscuring a part of the sky from the sand
A shadow, a coolness under its gaze
Was caught up in the midmorning haze.

On this mountain, a hiker went by
Running a trail that was half a mile high.
She slowed down her pace, with some strength to save
When she came upon a rather large cave.

Seeking to stop for a moment and rest
She went through the entrance and balanced her best
On the slippery stones that were in her path—
But then she tripped, and fell in a bath
Of icy cold water, down to the side

And then she began to slide…

* * *

When she came to, a dim light she found
Caressed the stone walls all the way around.
She held her nose—the place smelled foul—
And then she heard a growl…

A terrible, roaring, echoing deep
Sound that would wake the dead from their sleep—
Scare you until you had fainted from fright;
A tone that could drain you of all of your might…

The loud noise subsided and silence was heard
Then the poor hiker jumped up at a word
Softly spoken from somewhere nearby.

“Hi!”

She whirled around to see a figure approaching!
Slowly and steadily nearer encroaching…
With bat-like wings and a powerful tail—
This sight made the poor hiker’s face like shale!

When the menacing thing stopped advancing,
It paused, as if there were something it’s chancing.
Finally, gentle words came out
Which calmed her down, without a doubt!

“You heard that dreadful growl, correct?”
The hiker huffed and stood erect.
“Of course I did! I’ll bet it’s you!”
“My dear, that’s not true…”

The dragon left and soon returned
Carrying something that he overturned.
“I’m afraid salad’s all I’ve got,
But if you want more, I have a lot…”

“Wh…wha…what?” was all she could say.
“Don’t worry, poor girl, it’ll be okay.
Just eat up, hike on, and stop your scowling—
That noise was all your stomach growling!”

*

After a nice vegetarian meal
The hiker regained her vigorous zeal.
She thanked the salad-dragon for lunch,
Then started her hike, each step like a crunch.

It is a fact that today approximately 82% of all dragons are vegetarians, and the remaining 18% consume meat sparingly. 100% of all concerned would not touch human flesh as it is now considered downright fattening (and that’s the LAST thing they’d want!).

Spyro,
What a delightful and informative narrative! Your poetry has that certian MAGIC to it, but should I expect less from a gifted Dragon?

Thanks for the enjoyable read and the tips on dragon nutrition.  It's amazing how hard it is to find this information!
