When I was just a little girl. the family would travel by train to Louisiana where Grandma lived. I have such vivid memories, of those long ago train trips. But all my happy memories, revolve around the Porters on the train. Grizzly haired middle aged men, who smiled and laughed. They were so dignified, yet full of fun. I remember how they took charge of all the children. Their laughter and their songs for us. The endless games they'd play. Always gentle and full of fun. I remember feeling safe, and carefully watched over, by these wonderful Porters on the train. le coeur a ses raisons que la raison ne con-nait point....the heart has its reasons that reason knows nothing of.. |

Ellie~ You just touched a memory that warms my heart to this day. When my children were young we took them on a train trip so they could experience the train, lest it become a thing of the past. One of my sons pouted at the menu for lunch and the porter asked him what he wanted - my son said he wanted a peanut butter and jelly sandwich - that porter laughed and said he'd be right back - he returned with that magic peanut butter sandwich. That dear sweet man had gone to his own cabin and got peanut butter for my son. His smiling face still looks back at me from the family photo album. What a memory ! Thank you. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Ellie ~ What a wonderfully written memory you have written. My parents used to talk of the train trips they'd take to see each other before they were married, and when my brothers were little, that's how they would travel to see my grandparents, guess by the time I came along, it was travel by car... What a treat to take the trip with you. Bonnie |
