The Gymnasium bleachers slowly fill, With parents, grandparents and siblings too, Certain anticipation hangs in the air, Band-A-Rama concert will soon ensue! Practiced young musicians, ready to play, Their uniforms looking crisp and fresh, The brass, drums and woodwinds wait, The music and rhythm are soon to mesh! The conductor steps up, baton in hand, Music starts promptly with a wave, Video cameras strain to capture, Splendid images on film to save! Each musician playing their best, Conductor gives appreciative smile, Audience approves with loud applause, Parents beaming all the while! Program list the various songs, Include folk music and Sousa greats, A rendition of “Oh Danny Boy”, And an arrangement of “Amazing Grace”. The gymnasium floor was promptly cleared, To make room for the Marching Band, Playing “Echoes of the Gridiron” Which I must say was really grand! The Flag Corp displayed skill and grace, Waving their flags to tempo beat, But the concert was not over yet, For there was an added treat! The Shriner Bagpipe Marching Band, Filled the hall with resonate chords, Kilted musicians, talented showmen, Their beautiful music was outpoured! Thus the concert was concluded, In my heart the music did chime, This Band-A-Rama is now history, It was such a delightful time! 11-6-2000 [This message has been edited by Dennis L. I can identify with this as a veteran of many band concerts, both as performer and as parent. I'm glad you had such a good time, and shared it with us. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

This reminds me of all the times that I sat in the bleachers watching my children in a school performance. and yes, "a certain anticipation hangs in the air"! |

Beautifully written poem, Dennis. I can hear the pride in your words! You made it all so real, I've been to many of these, and enjoyed them too. You have a gift for words and rhyme that makes any experience come fully alive! Felt like I was there myself, so vivid. I like it Life has got to chnage, Nothing stays the same, Soon it will be time, For me to move on. |
