Mrs Morrissey Sold hamburgers She was very popular With the kids Especially on Saturday mornings After the movie show Crocodiles of children Would line up Clutching their few pence Deciding on which Culinary delight They would like to try With or without Onions With red sauce Or courgettes Or maybe hot Mustard! She was always dressed The same Warm and friendly socks Around her ankles Red and white chefs apron Sleeves rolled up With a glint in her eye Large warm red lips Ponytail hair She would give them a smile And on occasions A ‘Hello love how’s yer dad?’ Their hands were always grubby But she didn’t mind Sometimes she would whistle The theme song from the Just viewed movie Usually out of key So the kids all laughed Having purchased their Revelation of gourmet Historical importance They would walk home Munching and talking With buns the size of their head Waving thankfully Red sauce dribbling Onions falling Happy and not hungry The sight and smell Of Mrs Morrissey Logged in their memory For future discussion And joking Together Till next week And the movie And the hamburger And the fun Mrs Morrissey died today! Jon Mewett While reading a local newspaper in London I came across a small headline.......... LOCAL POPULAR PERSONALITY DIES.........Mrs Morrissey the local seller of....... Orinary people make their mark! I felt sorta sad for the kids. Jon |

Jon~ What a lovely write for Mrs. Morrissey! Isn't it great to know that even "ordinary" people can touch lives without even knowing it...and in their memories, the "burger lady" will live on. Bonnie |

I hope you take the opportunity, Jon, to send this memorial to her family...it is a wonderful tribute, indeed, to ordinary folk... Karilea If I whisper, will you listen?...KRJ |

Jon~ Mrs Morrissey was indeed a character for the children to enjoy. I am sure she will be sadly missed. Often the simple things in life are the best remembered. Well written tribute. Deb |

![]() Hi Jon, What a great job writing this poem as a memorial to Mrs. Morrisey and a reminder for us to look at the more important things in life. Your heart is clearly shining through this write. Not often do we read these articles much less devote thought and tributes to them. Job well done. Marcy |
