Now, you wonder what was Toto’s role? In this wee bit of insanity, Brewing storm--slice of life; Besides, being along, just for the ride-- (in a hand basket no less) Tripping on the yellow brick road Spiraling cosmos expand the emerald land; Flaming dandelion sun explodes Into fluffy seeds of reality that spin Along the axis of dreaming minds. Do you know the witch’s dual identity? (quite like someone else we know) Forces of good/evil in us all To make us wonder whom will win, in the end; But, is there chaos? An disorderly order Without rhyme and reason Crashing houses/raging fires Sweeping of time’s bitter broom. Only in fantasy does rightness Conclude the show At the rainbow end; and The munchkins are all full of holes Always grinning, tinny songs Forced into little roles (thy shall laugh; forever-ever, amen) Thus, it was scripted so. Now you are you still in wonder? At what was Toto’s role In this wee bit of insanity, Brewing storm--slice of life; Besides being along just for the ride; (in a hand basket no less) He was the key to the whole show Pulling the curtain aside to expose That the awesome wizard had no clothes; Dealer in illusions, monstrous delusions That forces without; can fix the problems within, All flash, no cash, when push came to shove! You can’t ask the fake wizard what to do, He is too busy pulling levers and flashing red lights; Arrangement of distractions; Now you know, that only you-- Can deal with the tornado in the maelstrom named life; See clear with the third eye of your straw mind Your own wondrous wisdom that is real As you open true/blue heart of tin To embrace the insubstantiality of the world With the courage of your mighty roar-- Which leaves us with the little lass, Alas, poor Dorothy still dreams in the opium fields Crimson days that never end Futilely tapping her ruby slippers; ‘tis, was all but an illusion (don’t you know?) Child, you can never go home! So we wonder from which dream Reality did she wake up from? Of course, Toto knows, but He only barks while he laughs; Snug in the hand basket called life. (who’s dream was this anyway?) Lady Noggins aka Wordancer ...come, dance with me...in my world of words... |

This is so good, so very good! As you open true/blue heart of tin To embrace the insubstantiality of the world With the courage of your mighty roar-- This is one of my favorite lines in your poem, but there are too many to list! Excellent job, I hope you either will, or have submitted this one somewhere! |

Lady Noggins, My favorite childhood movie, exposed right before my eyes, with such clarity and ambigueity , I am in awe! You have opened my eyes to the cosmic mysteries this epic explores.....and all through the eyes of TOTO! Excellent journey, and so well written! Bravo! Lady- well you certainly got my attention with this one. if i didn't know better i'd think you wrote this just for me. this has always been and still is one of my all-time favorite movies...i have it on video and just have to stick it in now and then and become a child again. i absolutely LOVE this...and what a unique angle on the whole thing...a real thinker is this one...i like that. -vicky "...until you have read the verse on his heart, you have not truely met the poet." -vlraynes |

LadyNoggins~ "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." This is just the most creative piece of delightful, insightful writing I've seen for quite some time. Wonderfully well told. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

There are lots of interesting layers here, and told in the context of something everyone knows an loves, with a little twist. Thanks for the fascinating read! To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

Why thank-you for all your wonderful responses to my wee bit of whimsy… Debbie, no I haven’t submitted this and right now I don’t think I will be submitting any of my words anytime soon, I tried it a couple of times…sigh, and I’m not good at rejection…lol. It just seems that acceptance depends of too many subjective standards. Plus, I also sent some of my haiku in…now I don’t mind critique and more than willing to make changes if needed, but not if it changes the whole concept…and as I was sending in polish work under my haiku guru guidance, I found it unsettling to be told they would be consider for acceptance only if I made changes as to what they thought haiku was. Although I did deleted one word in one haiku and it was published… Won’t do that again, besides I get enough satisfaction/interaction just by posting and sharing with folks here online. Dennis…always did have a feeling that there was more to Toto role that met the eye. Vicky, well it was written for a friend BTW have you ever read the book and did you know that there is more than one book? Marge/kcsgrandma, I can’t begin to tell how much fun this was to write…it just flowed, I love that when it happens… Thank again for all your lovely words. -Lady [This message has been edited by Lady Noggins (edited 10-24-2000).] |

Lady, Your writing is superb. I have a confession. I have never watched "Wizzard of Oz", I must have used it as a baby-sitting tool; after reading your work, I will buy the movie... Great read, wonderful artist with words. Marcy |

hi marcy, you should be able to find both the movie and book at your local public library, no need to buy. Although the movie is one of the unusual ones that mostly follows the book, there is a lot of richness/depth that is missing just because it is a movie. Perhaps after the movie you will be interested in reading the book. Thanks for the read! -Lady |
