He wrote a book That suffered from too many novel concepts. No one ever understood his work, But they thought that meant it was just that good. People are such sheep - They think that just because the plot makes no sense, It must be deep. Sadly, there were plot holes One could drive a Mack truck through. This somehow added to the beauty of it. Characters so two dimensional They were flatter than the paper they were printed on Filled out the rest of the story. The hero always flashed a smile That came right out of a toothpaste ad, And the heroine was just the proper combination Of distressed damsel and tough cookie To be completely annoying. Of course, the ending was "happy ever after," And the masses just ate it up - All half a dozen that were literate, that is. You mean sometimes things actually make no sense, it's not just over my head? Whew, that's a relief! LOL I wonder too sometimes how some books wind up on the bestseller list. You've got some fabulous lines in this gofor! Very entertaining! Denise |

Yeah, sometimes books have no plot, purpose, or reason...and yet folks love them. I'll still never understand why Danielle Steele novels are so popular... "If you can't annoy somebody, there's little point in writing." --Kingsley Amis |

You had me hooked from the first two lines, with the novel concepts pun. And I, too, am glad to hear someone say that obscure is not necessarily the same thing as deep! I think at times it's an Emperor's New Clothes effect, don't you? To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

I agree--it's very much an Emperor's New Clothes effect. People are so afraid of being considered different and against the norm, that they'll swallow back their doubts and concerns and opinions and go with the crowd. We're such sheep.
