GOING HOME It’s smaller than a mountain, bigger than a hill, standing tall and mighty near my garden wall, telling me of nature’s life, living then reborn, like a soul marching forward every golden morn. I hear its taunting mirth from wide grinning smile and see its satisfaction at my uncertain mind which like the wheels of jelly beans floating in the sky is seen and heard by only me between my inner sigh. Trees form stepping stones leading to the crest while grass clean and fresh a place for me to rest but strange as it seems to me each time I take a step it moves further out of reach, ten paces I would guess. It casts its shadow over life hiding light from view as healing powers in the night turn me into new but as my tears descend to rivers at its end I wonder why it couldn’t use rain of other men. My picky, fussy “mountain” that begs I conquer it needs only footsteps not covered with past grit and as it sends its breath in energy instead I feel its magic working each night I go to bed. Yet still it calls with patience and loving innocence as I embrace its message without much inner sense. I hear its call, feel its heart, know it has a soul while preparing to finally step back into my home. |
