Mayan Ruins in jungle clearing,
Rise up from dense vegetation,
Noble Icons from perished cultures,
Mix of Toltec and Mayan nations.

Guided by Suns’ annual journey,
Pyramids were built of crafted stone,
Dedicated to Seasons’, planting and harvest,
There Human sacrifices once atoned.

Celestial Observatory of ancient days,
Rounded walls like lighthouse stood,
Measured the travelers of the skies,
Perfected a calendar that’s still good.

Ball field stood in a short distance,
Where mighty warriors for game would trod,
Priests o’erlooked as players battled,
Would send one player to meet his Gods.

The ruins of the Yucatan,
Details left to the imagination,
Leaves one with a sense of Awe,
Of former Cultures, new appreciation!

Wow Dennis-
A meaty message of appreciation of civilizations of the past, based on your recent trip.  It is very evident that you were impressed by the ruins there, just as I am impressed by your touching impressions recorded here.
   Enjoyed your Poem here,   David

WOW- another day of life-and here among friends!

Dear Dennis; A beautifully crafted poem, you carried the wonder in your mind, and your imagination and exquisite poetic form, brought it all alive here. I can feel the ancient genius of form and architecture and see it throught your words. Wonderful. Love, Sis

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Hi Dennis,
I loved your poem! It brought back pleasant memories of my own trip to the Mayan ruins of Chitzen Itza!
I bet you had a great time!
