I hope some of you Coffee junkies (or is it connoisseurs?) can relate to this one.

"COFFEE"

Coffee is our most loved morning drink,
a pot we brew before we even think.
It's early percolation
must precede the animation
of our brain-waves, for our minds wake in a kink.

We pour with squinted gaze into our mug
then venture back to find that spot most snug
where we can sleep again.
And since we sit, it's not a sin.
It's just a wonder half was not spilled on the rug.

With puffy eyes and tousled hair we sip
with cautious lips that suckle slurp and nip
like toes around a steamy
swirling bath made hot and dreamy
where we'd rather firstly dangle than to dip.

Awaiting for its dosage to arouse,
alone we sit there speechless (or with spouse).
Too soon for verbal sessions,
only primitive expressions
which are grunted sniffed or snorted grace the house.

Yet coffee helps us finally brave the light.
Resolved to be both bushy-tailed and bright,
we face our daily tasks.
Yet we forgot our half full flasks
and left them culturing a fuzzy ghastly sight!

Stephen, I like your poem, especially the phrase "Awaiting for it's dosage to arouse".  I noticed you wrote this some time ago, have any others?  Keep posting!

This is great. one of those poems that make you take a step back and laugh at some of life`s funny moments. Unfortunately i`m one of those stupid people that also drink coffee in the evening, then I can`t sleep so I end up needing even more in the morning.  It`s a vicious cycle!! Oh, well that`s life!
