My golden boy, blue eyes so fair, The way the sun shines in your hair, If I could help, I would be there, Your on your own now. Reach for the stars, I used to say Don’t let those dreams, drift away, Plan ahead for rainy days, Your on your own now. You have grown so strong and wise, Determination, in your eyes, Time to break, maternal ties, Your on your own now. As you start your life anew, Take my love along with you, I’ve done all that I can do, Your on your own now. Build your palace in the sky Spread your golden wings and fly Don’t look back to wave goodbye Your on your own now. |

Debbie I love your poem........this one I posted earlier on on the same topic....I guess us parents are all the same hey.......sentimental old fools. Regards Jon As I look into your eyes I see the ruins of my youth Where dreams were real the Eagle flies We were the ones who knew the truth The baton passed is in good hands A quick young eye to spot the swerve The race is on to see who stands And who will fall …who’s got the nerve The battle you’ll fight with relish now While the splendour of the victory calls When anguish wrinkles your young brow The trophies won will deck your halls But keep the contest straight and true Don’t bend the rules just play the game So when recollections visit you The ghost of torment you can tame A fighter young he feels no pain He sees no suffering tastes no blood But let me tell you once again A victory won’s not always good When in penultimate rest you lay Reflecting on the battle ground How long and cheerless is the day If you have cheated every round No! Lift your head and keep it true Seek the victory… play it fair So no one can recall of you There was a hollow contest there Pick up the baton run your race Let every step be firm and strong I hope the sun shines on your face And victory heralds a happy song |

debbie..this shows such love and caring from your heart...what a wonderful mom to write such sweetness for her baby leaving and going out on his own...i'm sure he must think the world of you..i dread the day when i'll have to let my little one go away to school--i dont even want to think of her being "on her own" yet!! she'll grow up fast enough--as i'm sure yours grew up too fast! ok..babbling i am....sorry! this is so sweet, i love it.. hugs, dg theres no such thing as a failure who keeps trying--coasting to the bottom is the only disgrace. -j popper |

Jon, Thank-you, I'm glad you like it, and for sharing your poem, It's lovely! I agree, most parents must have these feelings as they watch their children growing older. There comes a point when we have to let them go! Dg, Thank-you, I'm glad you enjoyed my poem! They do grow up fast, at least mine did, and soon I found myself wishing for those days when life was a hectic, jumble of dishes, nursery rhymes, diapers and laundry! Keep building those memories, they will give you so much joy later! Debbie Sol, Thanks! Don't forget to tell her that you love her! |

Debbie, as a mom who went through this six times..I know your heart...and how hard it is to let go. But it is wonderful to see what nice young adults they can turn into..and also..you gain a new friend...Twilah |

Looking at it from, the other point of view, I really miss my perents telling my what to do in difficult situations. There are enough colours in the world, To paint your own dreams, You won't get them, Till you try. |

Twilah, Six Times? I hope it get easier each time another one leaves the nest! Rosepetals25, Thank-you, I probably will show it to him someday. Maybe when he's older and has a child of his own... Maria, You should tell your parents that sometime! They'd probably love to hear it! Thank-you for your comments! |

How sweet and sad at the same time...I really like this. With a little piece of tomorrow, You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye. Because today won't last forever, And the past will only make you cry. |
