He jumped the train…. a one armed jump And fell exhausted to the boxcar floor He’d been sitting on an old tree stump Running away from home .....once more This way he’d travelled many times It was a rhythm to soothe his soul He knew the song of the old train lines It made his….. lonely spirit whole Everything he’d done was wrong He didn’t seem to fit the mould Not for him was loves sweet song He was a waster…. he’d been told So he’d took this trip so many times Jumping off at where….. he chose He travelled far those long train lines Where he was heading no one knows In his heart…….. a burning light Was always present always there Kept in him this desperate flight Just why it was he didn’t care Life’s twisting path had left its mark Upon a lone ….and gentle mind The days to him were always dark He’d never known a word like ‘kind’ And so he ran and ran ……and ran Running from the cruel …….surround He would up and run from every man He ran alone until he hit ….the ground The highway black his only friend The huge truck shone a blinding light This he knew would be…..the end He wanted just to die ….that night The driver jumped his face… aghast And pulled his body from the ditch He didn’t know if this man would last But he could see…… he wasn’t rich He placed his coat beneath his head And gave the man a kindly word Tell me friend the driver said ‘Are you alright’ but he never heard The steel blue lights ripped through the air And took their crumpled bundle home A crowd had gathered from nowhere The stranger blessed by a man of Rome No one got to know his name That man with flight upon his heart No one knew from where he came Or found out why he felt….. Apart All they knew was he just…. ran And spent his life upon the road They called him then the ‘Running Man’ And loneliness was…….. his abode So if you feel a wish to……. fly And leave life behind you if you can Question it before………. you die! And cast a thought to…………. ………………….The Running Man Jon Mewett It's Ok folks I aint going nowhere! [This message has been edited by Jon Mewett (edited 09-18-2000).] |

*sighs* Very well written Jon...If I thought he would listen, I'd send it to my dad. Thankyou once again for writing a touching poem. Always, Nicole Broken Winged Angel With a little piece of tomorrow, You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye. Because today won't last forever, And the past will only make you cry. |
