She lived behind a colorful mask Her beauty warped by their lies She had a beautiful face Her truths hidden by brilliant disguise. Her smile told a story About things never true Her eyes were so convincing A trap… in the lightest shade of blue. She was fading away quickly Her facade was wearing thin They started asking questions Wondering where she’s really been. Her past held her down firmly Even the truth could not set her free She tried to wash the sins away But the demons would not let her be. She started telling the truth To those who were still around But all she heard was echoing Not a single soul could be found It didn’t really matter Because they never really cared She gave them what they needed She survived in other people’s prayers But even as she listened to herself She was surprised to hear her own words Even the truth sounded like a lie She couldn’t believe what she heard…. I guess you should have been there You could have seen what she saw You had to have been there You would have seen it all. [This message has been edited by Lady Lost (edited 09-12-2000).] |

Beth, Your poems say so much about the harsher realities or experiences of life. This one is well written, and sadly reflective of how easy it is to lose our bearings-our objectiveness- our identities- our truth. Such is experienced by many--and it can become quite bewildering as you have described--but once one has so reached their bottom--I believe that they can also find they way up and out of their facade & nightmarish world- to a more warm and gentle sunlight of living. Thanks for the read, David WOW- another day of life-and here among friends! Ain't God Grand! |

Hmm... Each time I read this, it's like something new shows up... Very well written and full of meaning.. ![]() With a little piece of tomorrow, You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye. Because today won't last forever, And the past will only make you cry. |

Beth~ 'She started telling the truth To those who were still around But all she heard was echoing Not a single soul could be found' When the truth sets us free - we find others to listen ... A circle of friendship opens up and takes us in. This seems a soul-searching look at the past. Welcome to the circle of friendship found here. *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Beth, You pose a sad tale of one who has hit bottom and seeks escape from past mistakes and life choices, while ready to share the naked truth, those self righteous hyprocrites around want no part of her redemption and healing. True fiends accept others mistakes and failing because they know they have also made mistakes and have been humbled by such experiences. TRUE friends will not abandon one in thier time of need. TRUE friends will cry with them and stay by their side as they begin the road to recovery. Your words once again are sad but very wise. Well Written! Dennis :^) |

One must embrace the lies, the truth, the pain as one embraces love, hope and joy. ![]() Ronil (The sweet sound of summer sends serenity through my soul searching for that evermore solitude.) |
