The room fell silent and this they shared
He stroked her hand to show he cared
Her gentle face was soft and white
He had sat a long …..cold night

Her breath was soft and almost none
The brightness in her eyes had gone
The girl he’d known had flown away
For her return…. he’d kneel and pray

He then recalled her soft sweet voice
Had whispered in his ear…. a choice
‘Keep me close don’t set me free
Will you dream your dreams with me’

They had been……….. for many years
Shared their love and shared their tears
Laughed and run through meadows sweet
Walked hand in hand along… the street

He remembered when they’d sat and cried
Because their Ginger tom had died
And barely had two weeks just gone
They’d rushed and bought another one

And then there was the joy of birth
They’d loved the child for all its worth
Their life had been ……a big balloon
They’d clung on tight and reached the moon

He would not swap …..a moment gone
There were no regrets and doubting…. none
If he could stop the time…. just then
He’d willing take each step again

But now in confusion he sat and saw
Her gentle smile was there no more
Where was her warmth her glowing flame
They’d been replaced with embers name

He could not understand this night
It wasn’t fair it wasn’t right
That he should sit within this room
A friend of sorrow wrapped in gloom

His love was just a breath away
From saying goodbye this last sad day
He just sat and cursed …..and cried
From his mouth his words just sighed

And then she gave a gentle smile
‘Hold my hand a little while’
and before ‘I love you’ he could say
He felt her spirit slip away

His body shook in disbelief
A flowing tide was strong his grief
Before he stood he bowed his head
And kissed her there upon the bed

He could not see his future now
Without her love he knew not how
And looking back on her once more
He wiped his tears and closed the door

Jon, I am happy that your poem is fiction. (You penned the reality quite wonderfully.)
Thank you for your kindness.  ...chanson~

*sighs*  Wow, Jon...And here I thought I was all cried out for awhile..   Very, very well done..

With a little piece of tomorrow,
You'll have to kiss yesterday goodbye.
Because today won't last forever,
And the past will only make you cry.

Jon,
A love lost...too soon.  So very sorry, I grieve with you.  So, very, very hard.  Yet, this is one more beautiful poem that I cannot seem to get past.  How do you do it?

Jon~
Your phrases are soft and tenderly rendered.
Very nice piece.

I have to admit I'm not very easily moved from my usual upbeat feeling...but this brought my voice to crack after I read it...this is truly a masterpiece you've written, if only you'd written it a few weeks earlier...this would definitely have gone in the best of the Book. Incredible poem, Jon.

This is sad, but true. My wife and I know that someday one of us will have to be the first to go. I enjoyed your poem.

Jon,
nothing grips the heart more than the loss of a love. . . for love is all we have. . . and to lose it. . . well. . .

Well done, superbly written, tenderly shared. . . excellent. . .

A good friend once told me, "If you love someone, TELL THEM!!!  You never know what may happen tomorrow."  I think that you expressed that so awesomely, the power of words is AMAZING!  Anyhow, just thought I'd share that with you.

This is a truely moving poem Jon. It is rather inspiring if rather sad poem and reminded me of the first poem that I have posted here. It made me remember a boy I knew that died when he was less than ten years old. This is the saddest yet...
