Same as Before He came walking the tracks August heat like layers beating down the dust. His clothes, ragged and filthy his smell wore like armor keeping the citizens at bay. Leaning up against the arm box rolling a smoke from butts smile missing pieces. At first, he was wary gauging the danger levels fight or flight in his eyes. Went on down the road Mickie D’s and got a bite happy meal for a hobo. Thought he might appreciate the humor involved if he would accept my offer. Once explained, I was looking for poetry... he came around, big time. He gave me enough material for a dozen books “with merchandising, even!”. All for the price of a smile, a bit of time already wasted this man gifted richly. A few smokes, laughs, some wicked lies and tears. A hetch of pack and away he went, same as before. A hobo, an outcast...burdened by the August heat. bleeding... "Tis ink coming from his arm, Captain!" |

Dan, This is lovely in every way. Agreeing with Lynne, what impressed me.. the author took the time, unselfish time for someone else and was enriched by it! But.. knowing you, this is something you do naturally. What a storyteller you are becoming. Enjoyed much. Love, Marcy |

I enjoyed this a whole lot. And so well written. It took me back to many a wonderful conversation I had with an old guy I used to meet now and then in Scotland who used to sleep rough... |
