Old Letters Crept into grandma's attic amusement from the rain. Exploring in cobwebs of time layers of years obscuring the names. Many songs of love and young bound letters of the same. Searching in an old trunk wiping years from a picture frame. Single swaying bulb, lighting eerie stark shadows dance and scare. Dust hangs lighted around less family skeletons, all are shared. Dust and years hiding my treasure blowing away some frozen time. Gazing into last centuries people all the ancients, family of mine. People and times I never met just stories and laughter I've heard. Here they live, real in photographs alive in written word. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ archival post mid 80's i think... bleeding... "Tis ink coming from his arm, Captain!" |

Totally great subject for a poem - and you covered all the bases here. I've felt something similar with photos of old ancestors - strange feelings, sadness, wonder, longing, fascination... wishing you could know them, but it's all gone, all those lives lived... lost in time. And we wish...we could go back and meet them, be there... This was what it did to me anyway. Great poem! |

Isn't it great to explore in the attic, and bring some of those memories back to life. What a treasure this piece is. Thanks. Bonnie |
