Thanks!!! Sittin' at my favorite truck stop Drinkin' in coffee and rugged ambience. Watchin' trucks rollin' in and out, Doin' a kind of eighteen wheel dance. Lined up at the fuelin' lanes, Pumpin' diesel into cavernous tanks. Payin' big bucks at the fuel desk, With a card, a smile, maybe a thanks. Truckers waitin' on much needed showers, Sittin' in the restaurant waiting to be called. Drinkin' their cup 'o' joe and tellin' tales. Some are serious, but most ribald. Sometimes weary car-travellers Stop to rest, have a little bite to eat. Some like me, are town locals, Comin' for a decent place to meet. Out the window, through wooden blinds Are six lanes of concrete I-84 highway Beyond is the green of Les Bois tree tops Even further are suburbs, mountains and blue skyway. I'm wonderin' where all those roads might lead That seem to just kiss the horizon. How many truckers have been over them? Many an angel must be shotgun ridin'. I finish my coffee and pay a foot weary waitress Go out to my car and drive by those big ol' tanks. I try to remember what life would be if not for them. So here and now I'd like to give all those truckers.... A GREAT BIG THANKS!!! By Wild*Child T/A (Burns Bros. Truck Stop) Exit 54 on I-84 Boise Poetry~ Words falling on paper, painting a dream. Wild Child - This is great!!! I've never thought to thank those guys (and gals) for the job they do....but I'm sure if they weren't out there doing their job, we'd all notice in one heck of a hurry, and have plenty to say. Terrific job. Bonnie [This message has been edited by BSC (edited 07-20-2000).] |

I've known truckers and I've been the weary traveler pulling over at a truck stop to rest. Your description is awesomely accurate. I too never thought to say thanks. Good job on this. ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... Black Eagle Oglala Sioux holy man |

Yes, brother dear 'o' mine it is still there but not on Federal Way. Now it is up the road apiece at I-84 and Broadway and they rebuilt it. It's a very nice place. Since I don't work at Merritt's anymore I don't go in there anymore. That was enough crap for me. Really like the new job!! Oh and yes they still have them plate sized hamburgers!! Bonnie and childomine...thanks for reading. I've been meeting a few of these people and they are a great bunch!! Poetry~ Words falling on paper, painting a dream. Shawna R. Holder Boise, Idaho |
