Tell me now old man Can you see where you went wrong? Tell me now old man Was your life a worthwhile song? Tell me now old man Has your time past without a mark? Tell me now old man Did your dog die without a bark? Tell me now old man Are the lines in your face all burning? Tell me now old man Was what you learnt a worth a learning? Tell me now old man How your shaking legs support your bones? Tell me now old man What’s it like to be alone? Tell me now old man With those hands how do you grip? Tell me now old man What is that stuff you sip? Tell me now old man Is your mind still ticking over? Tell me now old man Is your love still wrapped in clover? Tell me now old man Is your head still full of dreams? Tell me now old man Have you paid for all your schemes? Tell me now old man Are your tears now cried in pain? Tell me now old man Would you do it all again? Tell me now old man Have you anything good left to say? Tell me now old man Should I fight on or fade away? Tell me now old man Is winter cold are you just set there? Tell me now old man Will I survive do you think I’ll get there? Old man...........Tell me now Jon Mewett |

Tell me now old man, How do you write so well, Tell me now old man, Pray tell, pray tell. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

When pen I put to paper And start to write a verse Sometimes it is a blessing Sometimes it is a curse You ask me how I do it To solve this mystery I've wracked my brain to sue it But I just don't know you see Thanks Catman......Your very kind Jon |

A beautiful piece of artwork. Wonderfully written and full of questions I believe we all ask at one time or another. Life defines no more than what it is you ask for. April 20, 2000 Alicia A. Renzelman |

Thanx Denise Glad you enjoyed it. Thanx Alicia yeah your right. Sometimes life can be inscrutable, when I see an old person it always crosses my mind whether they are happy or regretful or a bit of both. It's a bit of wanting to live forever but not wanting the consequences that may bring I think! Jon [This message has been edited by Jon Mewett (edited 05-12-2000).] |

Very creative. I've wondered about this... Gather ye rosebuds while ye may, Old time is still a-flying, And this same flower that smiles today To-morrow will be dying. -Robert Herrick |

*quietly applauds* Once again, I find myself respecting your work. It's wonderful! I awake to a world I don't want. There is no transition for me. I am in heaven. I am in hell. |

This was excellent, but I think I'm gonna cry now, because I took some personal meaning from it for myself. I begin to wonder things like that when I think about the elder people in this world. Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau" |

This is wonderful Jon. While looking at the elderly are these questions you wonder of them because, you wonder these things of yourself? Are there regrets? Would you do it all again? |

Sounds awfully vengefull to me! Why so many questions, more like demands, from the "old man"? Why was it so full of spite? Sounds toward the end as if you're questioning your own ability to last as long as the old man, almost like you'd never get old yourself. A great way to add to this good work would be for the old man to answer just as sourly just as quickly and showing that old is synomous with wise and maybe verbally putting in check the "questioner". Thanks again for another good one! |

Well there is no old man so he can't answer back. It's a universal kind of thing. Consternation springs to mind for the intended tone of this piece. But hey subjective iterpretations OK by me When they showed me a photo I just laughed Dignity can't be photographed Jon |

jon..i find myself enjoying your responses as much as your poetry! i love this one..only constructive critisism i would have is for a possibility of less repetition of the title..but i realize you were trying to make a point with that--i get it, i like it..in spite of the rep.. dg |

This one is excellent, I wonder the same things myself at times. Love and hugs, Lizzie "Poetry is the true expression of my soul, it is my ultimate means of communication. It is my rainbow of delight." |

I found this poem to be a uniquely intriguing piece of work, and enjoyed reading it immensely. It was very thought provoking, and also must have taken careful thought on your part. Thanks for a very fine read, Kris the poet's pen...gives to airy nothing A local habitation and a name ~ Shakespeare |
