Porcelain Dolls Often they seem scary They seem to stare you down One dressed in a pants suit Another in a gorgeous ball gown Some passed down through generations Others a Christmas or birthday gift Filled with glass eyes and hand-painted smiles That never cease to give me an uplift The oldest in the collection Doesn't stand, but sits The newest addition to the shelf Seems to be throwing a hissy-fit One small schoolgirl With glasses & books in hand One all "dolled" up in her white wedding gown Looking closely, you can see her gold wedding band One named Marisa With curly red hair And a short little blonde They make a great pair One has an actual Frog in her pocket Around her neck lays A brilliant silver locket All of them different Yet in a way, they're the same All have sentimental meaning Each with a different name Each one unique In it's own way clever Through years of chips and cracks, Porcelain dolls will endeavor. I wrote this one ~B4~ my writer's block, thought I needed to post SOMETHING GOOD upon my return. Hope to get plenty of replies(!!!) LOL! Alicia A. Hi Alicia! "Through years of writer's blocks you will endeavor" too. Very nice! I hope you pull out of it soon. I wrote a coincidental poem this morning called "Writer's Block?" It's in spiritual, maybe it would help, who knows? Glad you're back! Jester |

Nice one Alicia. Some of them are kind of scary. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. Irish proverb. |

I have a couple of dolls in my collection. I'd love to expand it, one day. They are so pretty to look at and it's nice to remember the person behind the gift! I love your poem! p.s. Just a little tip, Alicia, to encourage others to read, drop the (kinda long) from the title!! By the way, it's really not that long and you might be scaring away readers! ![]() Denise |

First, I agree with Denise. I almost didn't take the time to read it (however, being a female, the title pulled me in). This really isn't long at all and I found it quite enjoyable. I can remember as a little girl being terribly frightened of some of those dolls. Thanks for the memories - I think. lol Very nice poem. ...BUMP... < !signature--> ...Give me the strength to walk the soft earth, a relative to all that is.... This poem is very nice, made me think how special these dolls are for gifts, I always just dream of having a collection myself someday. Thanks for sharing this one with us. ![]() |

Now being a guy I havn't got any dolls...Honest ![]() But it did occur to me when reading this that these dolls could each reflect different times in your life...with their faces and all. I must look at my daughters collection closer. Needless to say I like your poem. Please check out my response to your response to THAT WORD. Jon |

Hmmm..Maybe I'm taking this strangely, but I come to think you're talking about more than procelain dolls here, or at least you could be. Then again, maybe I DO read too much into things. ![]() Nothing can deter a poet, for he is actuated by pure love. Who can predict his comings and goings? "Thoreau" |

Hmmm.. My Grandmother gave me a collection of porcelian dolls I put away somewhere.. I'll have to dig them out again for a closer look. ![]() I awake to a world I don't want. There is no transition for me. I am in heaven. I am in hell. |
