(A Father's Day poem, naturally ) Thanks, Dad, for playing catch with me, so like Field of Dreams, and for taking me golfing when I was so young---sweet! Thank you for being a good provider for us all, and letting us know life is sometimes good as it seems. Thanks for what good advice you gave, although I'd still fall, and thank you, Dad, for wise suggestions---they were a treat! You knew so much about so many things, though not all, of course. Your smile and your concern meant so much to me. Love to you, Dad. I know you are well up in Heaven. And thanks for catching the wheel when I fell asleep then! So, you saw that I did remember the sign, now gone, along the road to the promised land. Your loving son... |

I don't know how great the Internet is for poetry... It is difficult to do justice to one's Dad (both in tribute and in complexity) with an extemporaneous, word-processor poem, no matter how one runs with the muse. Thanks, A. & E.B., for your kind comments here. |

In my Daddy's day, living by one's wits often meant productively. |
