Victorian trimmings
and lighted reindeer
seek to capture nostalgia
this time of year

Buying cards and yards
of ribbon, so pretty
are ways todays people
try to get ready.

Frequenting malls with
long request lists,
lights strung and songs sung,
all for Christmas.

Making cookies and candies,
planning dinner
trimmed fireplaces that
crackle and shimmer,

All in an attempt to
create the delight
that inspired the awe of
that first Christmas night.

Have we come to love
all the creations
more than the Creator
in our celebrations?

God was revered and obeyed
in total trust
for the Saviors arrival
He'd promised

Ones heart was what
needed preparation
for the awesome gift
of incarnation.

It wasn't celebration of
the great stars shimmer,
nor angels, frankincense,
gold or myrrh

Nor did they celebrate
the hearts prepared,
but God's promised Savior,
His gift, they shared.

Seems we'd benefit
greatly today,
if we prepared and celebrated
far more that way.

Yep, I think that true happiness doesn't come from the gifts that are bought. But only through our Savior can true happiness be found.  Thanks Mom for the reminder. Beautiful poem!

Nice to have you hear, Sandgrain. Merry Christmas! Your poem held an appropriate way to celebrate the Christmas season.

Nail to the mast her holy flag,
Set every threadbare sail-
And give her to the god of storms,
The lightning and the gale!

A wonderful reminder about what is truly important during, not only the holidays, but life in general.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

Rae,
This is a truly thoughtful piece
which helps put things in a perpsective
missed in the maze and dazzle of the
suferficial trappings of the holiday.
Thank you for sharing your wise focus.
