Your 21st Christmas
Falls on you
Like a silent dream
That never awakens.

The dawn shivers
On a magic morning
You can't understand,
You, eternally six.

Pleased you can spell your name,
Sorry you wet the bed the night before;
Looking at toys at the age
Other girls are getting married.

You go running downstairs
With your new dolly
To switch on the fairy-lights
Although it is only 4 a.m.

The world awaits for you,
But you, (forever a child of Jesus)
Shall never find it.

If I am silent, it is because I am thinking, if I do not talk, please do not think I rude.

Actually, she did find her world.
It's just different than yours, or mine.
Hello! Good to meet you!

ff%243:

i was a little wary to check this out from reading the title, but i'm really glad i did.  what a great depiction.  i think you capture really well what it's like for us 'normal' people to see 'retarded' people.  and there's a poignancy and pathos to your images -- like the one of the girl running down the stairs to turn on the fairy lights at 4am.

good jaerb.

Like all my "personal" poems (eg "To Luke Robbins") this is truth.

Thank you for your comments.

I enjoyed this. Its a sad piece but it is so real. We see right through people and ignore them, its human nature. But to set that nature aside and see is so amazing.
