Thanksgiving

It's a day that's meant for families,
To give thanks for all our blessings.
To carve a succulent turkey,
Fill up on cornbread dressing.

Sadly some call it "Turkey" day,
To me that is so sad,
It isn't Balladeer's birthday?
But for all of what we have.

Why celebrate the turkey?
Though it gave it's life for me,
To remind us of Thanksgiving,
That's how it's meant to be.

I'm thankful for so many things,
For my kids, my friends, my health
All these things mean much to me
They're how I measure wealth.

This year when I give thanks
I'll include LongJohn Silver too,
He's the one that brought me here,
So I could be thankful for all of you.

This is beautiful, dear friend... and such a wonderful reminder! *S*

And yup... hard as it is to give the sailor anything but a hard time, we do owe him a lot... he searched, he found, we followed. *S*

I love the poem, Toe... and am so thankful for the poet. *S*

A nice poem. I thank the turkey a bit differently though, by setting him/her free to enjoy another meal, while I eat a veggie version.
And with sweet taters and rice or stuffing and then pumpkin pie? YUM, you are making me hungry, and very thankful that I have some food in my fridge.

Well I do believe that I am going to have to save this one for many reasons - of course it is a nice poem, but did I just read you thank Mike for bringing you here? Well, I am glad he brought you here too, you are a great guy Mr. Toerag, and we all treasure you.  Happy Thanksgiving, and from the sounds of it, you are indeed a wealthy man.

All these years I thought it was a celebration of turkeys and their intelligence, and that that was why they were always the guest of honor on Turkey Day!

When when I came to Pip I came to realize that Turkey Day was Balladeer's birthday---but now you say it isn't!?! I am so confused!

Well, I think I prefer your interpretation of the meaning of Thanksgiving and may yours be a wonderful one--as is this poem I might add!
