For my nieces, Isabella and Sophia
and for my grandnieces, Alyssa and Victoria
and my grandnephews, Stephen and Zachary

and inspired by the original "Misltetoe Angel"--Noah Eaton

when little Diana was
          just a girl of three
her parents received a present
an angel for their tree
now, this little angel was
          the strangest she had seen
made entirely of mistletoe
in shades of white and green

every day she would see him
          sitting high above
the quiet Mistletoe Angel
that she had grown to love
every night he would shine
          in their darkened living room
and since she came to love him,
she made for him this tune

Mistletoe Angel sing for me,
Mistletoe Angel dance for me,
Mistletoe Angel stay with me,
Till the light of day I see

every day she would sing
          this simple little song
and the little Mistletoe Angel,
he felt that he belonged,
belonged to the heart
          of this shy little girl
who did indeed love him
more than anything in the world

now, Christmas came and went
          and came and went again
and Diana, now all grown
forgot about her Mistletoe friend
he sat in a closet corner
          so very dark and cold
lamenting his lonely life
wondering when he became old

then one day, the bright sun
          fell again on his leaves
Diana was just amazed
that they had stayed so green
she looked different then she did
          so very long ago
among her golden threads
some silver ones had grown

"Grandma, Grandma is this the one?"
          came the excited cry
that's when he noticed the tear
come from the corner of her eye
"Yes, that's the one" she said
          in voice warm and soft
and to the top of the tree
he was again placed aloft

now Mistletoe Angel
was back on top of the tree
shining brightly once again
so that all around could see
the little girl said "Grandma! Grandma!
          Please teach me the song?"
and together, they sang those words
not heard in time so long

Mistletoe Angel sing for me,
Mistletoe Angel dance for me,
Mistletoe Angel stay with me,
Till the light of day I see.

the moral of this story
is as plain as Chirstmas Day
each one of us is Christmas
in our own special way
Mistletoe Angel learned this
          and Diana did too
that Christmas is something
that stays the whole year through

Christmas is a candle that
          shines its holy light
promising us a day
at the end of darkest night
and Mistletoe Angel hopes that
when you see him high above
that you'll remember his story
and treasure it with love

This is so sweet Sven!! I love it. You should get someone to paint the Mistletoe Angel and turn it into a children's book..

thanks LW and deVine. . .

this was inspired by Noah's poem Mistletoe Tears, in which he asked "Where are you Christmas?"

my reply was that Christmas was inside of him. . . and thus, began the poem. . . the little song came first, and the rest of the poem followed. . . further inspiration came from the song, "Where Are You Christmas?", which is a song from the movie, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". . .

who knows??  maybe it will become a children's book one day. . . thank you. . . and thanks to Noah for his inspiration. . .

This was such a special treat to read, it reminded me of the Christmas angel that always topped our family tree when I was a girl and before that it topped my mother's family tree.  Sadly it has fallen apart from age, being made mostly of paper, but I still keep it lovingly wrapped in tissue paper in the ornament box to be looked at, even if only for a short time, every Chistmas.

This is a lovely gift of words, a true keeper ... by all means think of turning it into a book.
(by the way my daughter is a very gifted and talented artist ... think about it ... more.)

(big Mistletoe Angel friendship hugs) Oh Sven, I just had to bump this back up as you have forever touched my heart with your special gift, as Christmas is deep inside of each of us and I want children for generations to annually cherish this special classic and your golden heart! (smiles)

When I first joined Passions December 17, 2000, I chose that name because I simply felt because it was right before Christmas, it was fitting for the holidays and sounded cute! But over these few years, I know my name has so much more meaning I've identified; that ever too often we take for granted the ideals of Christmas; giving and sharing, and Christmas is truly meant to be everyday. It's like what the Grinch says himself in Dr. Seuss's classic "Maybe Christmas doesn't just come from a store, perhaps Christmas is something more!". "Mistletoe Angel" I guess is what personifies this unconditional giving and sharing, all I want is to dedicate my life to bringing comfort and love to all. Plus, mistletoe is actually a parasite, and I believe love should be spread like the flu, and is the most contagious flu of all yet it only makes you feel warm inside! Every time I read this, it makes me cry in joy to know of Diana and your loved ones and how though she may have grown on the outside from the little girl she used to be, the spirit of the little girl still lives in her and she still cherishes these songs and carols of Christmas, as I believe no matter how old or young we are, the spirit of the boy or girl in us all comes alive every holiday season, and I only pray sings every day just the same!

I hope that this special poetic tradition lasts forever, so the children can always know from your precious, timeless words that Christmas does listen to them and is in their golden hearts! God Bless You All God Bless You Sven, and may you and your families all have the most happiest holidays!

Love,
Noah Eaton
