The Visionary's Christmas

Thanksgiving turkey now merely a scent,
Excitement stirs 'round clear, tiny white lights
dotting valley and hill; a milky wave twinkling
its Holiday welcome while tempting the child in us,
teasing our sight.

Wrought street lanterns sway, decked with live holly wreaths,
while breeze-tossed banners pave cobblestone lanes.
They lead to the stately town fir where the young
string berries and seedpods; avian friends hover,
chirping in flight.

Treasured memories in trunks stored throughout the year;
with precious care their bounty revealed.
Anxious fingers unwrap glass ornaments, antiques;
angels and snowmen from soft cotton appear;
a reminiscent delight.

Placed on the mantle, to all senses revere;
breathe aromas of fudge and sandtarts galore.
Warmed cinnamon swirls 'round fresh, ribboned swags,
absorbs every crack of oak rafters, waxed floor
reflecting vague candlelight.

Carolers, bundled in furred-lined boots,
woven muffs, thick scarves (like much-loved stuffed toys),
have bottomless coat pockets brimming with sticks
of peppermint, butterscotch, sweet licorice root,
ensuring unwavering insight.

Harmonizing ensembles in groups of mixed chorus
reach frostbitten windowpanes, foil-wrapped doors;
Behind them with smiles adorned; the young and not-so,
are wide-eyed, aglow, to each song's gentle lure
and wish to invite:

"....hands embrace, unite color and creed,
those with abundance welcome those from the curb.
For Christmas is sharing, an opening of heart,
not merely this day for an hour or so, but each
and every star-laden night."

Music, tonal clear & pure,
Caresses the harshest of curves.

Happy Holidays! this poem was simply wonderful! I loved every word of it.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them!

Hello Marge!
I like sandtarts too. Unfortunately it's a cookie I'm better at eating than making.
Thanks so much for reading! You have a nice Holiday
