After I posted this poem in the Corner Pub, I realized that It might have been more appropriate here! I hope nobody minds if I post it again! He almost missed her standing there, outside the alleyway, as he was shopping in the square, alone on Christmas day. Her clothes were worn, her feet were bare, and much to his dismay, a hint of snow was in the air, the sky was turning gray. She looked at him, through tangled hair, a homeless, unloved stray, and in her eyes he saw a prayer, and all that it conveyed. Life he thought, is quite unfair, an outrage, I dare say! Then having no more time to spare, he hurried on his way. Other people, unaware, strolled by without delay, caught up in their own affairs, this joyful holiday. God’s mercy is it anywhere? Kind spirits, where are they? To help another in despair, and take the pain away? Will no one find the time to share and give her what they may? Or offer more than just a glare, for that which they survey? Will she be left, to sadly stare, upon the bright display, of selfishness, and Christmas flair, humanity’s decay? Abandoned to the cold night air, this little angel lay, and waited for the world to care on this, most holy day. |

Awwwwww this was so heart breaking. Another reminder that not everybody is as fortunate as we may be. To give is to get. I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. I hate your socks. I'd like to burn them! |

A very moving and heart-breaking poem. It is much like the one poem I have written about Christmas. It is nice to know that there are other people out there who see the same pain at holiday season as I do. Good for you. A wonderful poem to read and contemplate. Look forward to reading more. |

Awww Debbie~ After reading poems like this one and the others in here, I don't see how people could not care. This was heartbreaking, but you wrote it so beautifully. Elizabeth |

This is such a heartbreaking poem! It's awful to think that someone would have to spend their Christmas like this... Thanks for sharing. False gems may shine as brightly as the genuine article, but there are always those who can tell the difference. |

Something that we should keep in mind this Christmas season... You cling to your ways and leave mine to me. Suum cuique. ~Elizabeth |
