I was touched By satiny wings of iridescent hues Surprisingly kissed By its painted air As I stood on the corner Of the bustling block The crossing of confusion, hurry Lights, horns, screetching tires Ambulance sirens, worry Whistles for taxis Impatience Thinking of how I would like to be Somewhere else Feeling like a tar bubble In the blacktop heat Being squashed among crowding feet The smell of Old Spice and White Shoulders Made for musty old white socks Smothered, in the wait for the light Out of nowhere From the heavens A brush on my cheek Lightly stopping to breath its wings Everyone standing witness Moved away, and I laughed It kissed only me And suddenly, gone High above the dirty air Between two dilapidated buildings Casting tiny rainbows in its path Flittering and fluttering away Some guy roughly says, "You can cross now Madam Butterfly" I held up the crowd, now pushing by But I stood there at the green pedestrian light Amazed at the seemingly deliberate display He hears you.... Even....In the city [This message has been edited by rwood (edited 03-15-2000).] |

WOW - r - This is just beautiful....I felt like I was there, such imagery you created. I live in a rural town now, but grew up in a city.....and could truly relate to that part of it....ugh....the smells on the bus!!!! Thanks for this, it was great...Bonnie |

Dear R; I love the way you made the picture of the city so real, but most of all, that He gives out His Loving touch any where any time. Beautifully written too! That must have been such a magic moment! Love, Ellie 02 |

Many places in the world seem in their ways, God-forsaken and lonely, though crowded by seas of humanity. I like your wonderful poem-even in the city! The only place utterly devoid of God's goodness & mercy is Hell itself--the City of Satan! Thank you for your touching poem of divine contact in the less than desirable habitats of mankind, David "Our Creativity points to a Higher Creator--we couldn't have just happened, and for what ability we may possess--to God be the glory." -dlw- |

Wow, plugged my nose for a minute there just after the sox, but enjoyed this read tremendously. The most vivid pictures are painted with your words. Thank you. |
