I've Seen the Light

Amazing are the things He’s done for all men’s souls
Grace given to each whose faith seeks that which it extols
How beautiful the quest to set the spirit free
Sweet child of grace spread light upon one such as me

The purest in belief and innocent of mind
Sound out your faith and sureness to the seeing blind
That instinct to believe the splendors  yet unsaid
Saved deep within a rosebud’s petals yet to spread

A Light can make the darkest hours of life to this
Wretch full of sin, and fallen into an abyss
Like misty haze, rise up and slowly dissipate
Me as I was, unfit to enter heaven’s gate

I’ve been so long  rejecting those beliefs that I
Once thought to be with me until the day I die
Was I to  praise a God who left me all alone
Lost in the wilderness to find my way back home?

But since those dark and weary days, I’ve come to see
Now I’m enlightened by the Grace that set me free
Am comforted within the halo of His crown.
Found  is my faith that I once tossed upon the ground

Was  I so self protective of my sorrow’s thorn
Blind to His love, my soul so weary and so worn?
But when I look back on the pathway that I’ve tread
Now visible The footprints of the One who led

I am no longer blind to what I cannot see
See just the rosebud in the mirror, it is me

Hello Elizabeth,

I really enjoyed your poem and the way that it was styled. I've not seen that before. It made me want to try one myself and so I did tonight. I will post it next.

Be blessed,

You are simply amazing!!  I love the way you made that look effortless and still come through in shining colors.  The poem itself is beautiful and full of inspiration and your rhyme is perfect.  It reads so wonderfully aloud.  I read it to myself first and then when I saw your note about the first words in each line, I read it aloud.  Beautiful and a shining message to all of us.  BRAVO

Well done.  A beautiful work.  I didn't see before you pointed out the first words but your poem was so beautiful, I wasn't looking for anything.  Joyce

Joyce, I was so certain by the word "wretch", someone would start to recognize it. THank you for reading and commenting. Much appreciated

Enchantress, Oh, I'm so glad this touched you probably in the same way it toouches me, "Amazing Grace" is my favorite hymn, so simple and yet so powerful, both tthe music and the lyrics. Thank so much

Elizabeth,

This is an exciting and inspirational form of poetry.  I do believe that the song you've chosen is the all time favorite song of all time. The beginning of the song beginning each line, mixed with your apparent love for roses, and your personal testimony makes for a most wonderful poem.  Enjoyed reading your poem very much and I thank you for sharing.  GOD bless.

It's a real compliment that the style wasn't at first recognized by me either. The piece flowed so well  and was so interesting that realizing the songs words began each line seemed like a bright cherry on the nut topped whipped cream.  Wonderful work!
