The Secret Haven
I come to walk amidst the trees
To where my heart is calm
A special place to rest the soul
And savor earth’s sweet balm

No one has stepped upon this path
No soul knows of this place
My haven where I contemplate
The troubles I must face

No foot but mine has tread this way
No man has lived my fears
And in the sorrow of my days
No one has shed my tears

My heart is seeking a retreat
From city’s dusty scene
I need to sit alone among
The summer woods of green

But now the path ahead is etched
With footsteps freshly marked
It seems that someone found the place
To which I have embarked

I stopped my trek, for I would not
Disturb his solitude
Nor would I want my grief and pain
And presence to intrude

I turned to leave, with heavy heart,
Retracing sorrow’s way
But heard a sound, a gentle voice
That beckoned me to stay

“Do not return along the path
Where you’ve already plod
The footprints that you see ahead
They are the steps of God”

“Each time I’ve come to comfort you
And walked a bit ahead
So you would follow in my steps
The path that I have spread”

“In secret havens of your own
You never sat and prayed alone”

Elizabeth,

This poem is beautiful.  At first, I was thinking how fortunate you are to have a secret place where no one else comes to disturb you, then I shared the sorrow that your secret place had been discovered, then lastly, at the end, I learned a valuable lesson that we are never really alone.  Wow, such a far journey taken in such a short amount of time.  A very delightful read. GOD bless.

I know this place do I not?  It makes perfect sense he led the way, and he always will my friend.  What a beautiful poem Liz, absolutely heartfelt and beautiful.

Elizabeth I think this is the most beautiful thing I have ever read. I have read about how he walks with us through the fire of our trials, but to think of him walking a step ahead calling us to follow. How beautiful...
Thank you for blessing me today with your beautiful words.

Hugs,
Deb

This whole poem tells such an incredible story from your heart. I just love the lines,

'...My heart is seeking a retreat
From city’s dusty scene
I need to sit alone among
The summer woods of green...'

and how many times have so many of us needed to go to a place like this. To reflect, rest and be with God. And you are oh so right, we are never alone. Bless you for writing this and for reminding me I need to walk in the 'summer woods of green!'  Hugs, Marti

Serene and beautiful are your words that take us on your trek and how much more could one ask for than to have "Him" one step ahead of us always.  Something that we all know but need to be reminded of occasionally and you placed it before us superbly.  Excellent use of your pen and faith in this one.

I have not been back to this forum for a while, and had forgotten about this poem, and now I come back to post and find your lovely and warm responses to this poem, and went back to read them again. Sharon knows of my green hills because she visited me. Thank you all so very much, an of course you may use this poem as you wish it in your readings, etc. Thank you.
