inspired by Sunday message by Adam Janes, First Christian Church

Maybe When I’m Old

Maybe when I’m old,
I will find, again,
the old ways.

“Train up a child
in the way that he should go,
Even when he is old,
he will not depart from it.”*

Maybe when I’m grown,
I will find, anew,
the path for me.

It all looked so simple
in the youth of my days;
I forged on so eas’ly
assured of my ways.

But the valleys,
the crevices
were as great crevasse
as hours and years
of opportunities passed.

The stitches of learning,
the in and the out of basting,
flavors the tasting
of the living
of our lives.

The sharpness of the needle
the strength of the thread
lends the power to stay
where righteousness led.

Yet, as the journey goes,
knots form at thread’s end;
where is the power
to keep them from fray?

Surely it is in following
the sweet, narrow way.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

VAS:  I think it's true that as we grow older, we usually grow wiser and don't make so many mistakes.  However, the need for guidance is still there and we rely on God even more.  Very well written poem.

One of the many joys of growing old.  Time to reflect on the true meaning and value of life.  Jocye

(sigh) Wow, this reminds me of a quote by Henri Matisse saying "It takes a very long time to become young" I believe that to hold and captivate and fid peace within that child in our hearts that he gives us is the key to joy forever! (kiss on cheek) May we all find His warmth in all our hearts, sweet friend, this is lovely, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Virginia, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
