Jesus Barabbas

"So when the crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release to you:
Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?" NIV Matthew 27:17

Barabbas, son of The Father
Why so were you released?
Jesus Christ took your own place
He died to give you peace.

Was not your name, Jesus, too?
Though men of cloth have lied
Omit from Scripture, 'bout you?
This truth they try to hide.

Wanting man to worship names
Penned "Jesus" same as Christ
O Lord! Was man playing games?
Only Christ did pay the price.

Why do men beguile us so?
Hide, "Jesus", his name, too?
Barabbas, Wasn't Jesus?
Set free like me and you.

Jesus Barabbas?

Silver Streak,

Your poem here is one to make one expand their thinking a bit...  Barabbas is a fine representation of how man is set free by the Grace of GOD.  Yes, Jesus paid the ultimate price for us all. Amen.  Thank you for sharing.  -Bob

Christ died to save us all. Barabbas  also had his chance to believe.  Joyce

Yes, Bob, Christ died for all sinners. Jesus Christ, not Jesus Barabus. Remember that that according to ancient records they both had the same name, Jesus.

Newell, how very interesting that the two men that day shared the same first name. I'd never heard that before. Enjoyed this one very much. Cheryl

(sigh) Yes, it was Christ who saved us all from sin, but Barabbas also should always be noted in the story, for he also plays a great significance behind how Jesus got this far and paid the price for all sinners! (big huggssssss) This is a wonderful thought-provoking footnote, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Newell, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Thank you, Cheryl. Yes, I heard the story on a Bible radio program. It was very intriguing. It was presented as if Barabbus was purposely chosen by God as another way to show the story of God's gift of Grace. You see,  Bar means "son" and "abbus" means father. And it is used to connote a father of notoriety. And so it is suggested that Barabbus was the son of a powerful man of fame. And Barabbus was to be crucified for committing murder in a resurrection. During this time especially during Passover, there was much violence and that is why several levels of rulers were present with many troops to quell rebellion.
And so the story of Easter takes on another physical manifestation of God's gift, by telling the story of Grace by the release of notorious Jesus Barabbus, rebellious son of a famous man of the time.

Wonderful poem of inspiration and praise to our Lord! I have learned something new as well. Very interesting and thought provoking.

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
