Selfish pride "Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. " NIV Psalms 16:18 There's something buried deep I cannot hide A dark door to my soul is shut inside Telling me not to see; it's robbing me From the light, from my sight in a dark night. Whenever I seek the truth, it closes And I feel sharp thorns, not sweet new roses It rains and rains and rains and rains, all day I must never pull a lever to day. Something tells me I'm walking at the brink And my soul will be destroyed when I think For dark evil lurks inside, after me. I'm in bondage; I am chained, cannot free. From time to time I think I have a rope I cover my dark feelings with new hope But a magnet deep inside my being Pulls me back, I have no strength for seeing. Must I die be crucified with my fate For deep inside there's something that I hate 'Til I learn humility, freeing me, inside I must soon die from my own selfish pride. Jesus Christ came to die, was crucified Said I am forgiven for things I hide He shed His blood just to show God's true way Repent, release, abandon to Love's Way. A new spirit entered in; the old one died As Love for others just replaced my pride Opening me to light from heaven's sea Shining Light with Love, Life with purity. So I died and rose again in my spirit It is true! A new song! I now hear it! No more worry 'bout my self or my day As Christ took all my selfishness away, Now I see The Light as I walk my way As Jesus holds my hand every day And my souls feels so wonderful inside As I love you with no more selfish pride. Are you into Rap? No offense...but I meant that as a compliment...rarely can anyone write a poem that doesn't have a set rhyme scheme and have it flow so smoothly as you did...only rappers seem to be able to do that...I mean this poem has a definite rhythm to it that just sucks you in and you can't help but finish it...you know? Good job. J~ |

![]() ![]() ![]() (smiles) God Bless You, sweet friend, you speak of the harmful pride so very well; I believe not all pride is sinful, but as long as we stay attached to our dear Lord and love others as they should be treated, pride is a virtue! (big hugggsssss) We all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Newell, thank you for sharing! ![]() May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

Thank you Joyce for your thoughts. I agree that we all must let the Love of God shine on dark pride. For I cannot overcome. Only Love in my heart can and does replace selfish pride. ![]() -newell Sharing God's Love through perfectlovepoetry.com |
