(Out of the Pit)

He picked me up as I lay in the mud
He washed me clean with His sacred blood
He didn’t ask that I turn a new leaf
All He asked from me was trust and belief

Where could I run, where could I hide
that Jesus would not be at my side?
He loved me in my filth and sin
He loved me knowing where I’d been

No greater love could a Savior show
No greater love could a sinner know
Out of the pit, Love lifted me
Without His love where would I be?

From the muddy pit
To the foot of the throne
What a wonderful Savior
Make Him your own

Cheryl,

Very good advise.  I was a little shocked at the beginning in a good way.  I came into your poem with the title and the old hymnal of the same name ringing in my mind when I read "Out of the Pit..."  Actually, brought a smile to my face.  So true, GOD's Love has lifted us out from an aweful pit and has placed our feet firmly upon the solid rock of His Truth.  Amen and GOD bless you.

Cheryl this writing is extrordinary, it is lovely and so full of love, It reminds me of the song, which is my favorite. " Love lifted me" this is so well done.It is so easy to write about Him when you love Him.     floria

Floria, thank you kindly. When I first wrote this, I had titled it "Out of the Pit." Not such a lovely title so I took a more positive approach and changed it as you see it. I'm mean, we've all been lifted from the pit of sin, if we're redeemed. Love is definitely what brings us up from the pit. Cheryl

J, that's a definite compliment. Might have to get our pastor to give it a shot. Cheryl
