Esther

"This is what happened during the time of Xerxes, the Xerxes who ruled over 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush:" NIV Esther 1:1

Seven days they were eating fine and drinking royal wine
From vessels of gold, his majesty King Ahasuerus and friends of old
His heart was very merry! Queen Vashti Come! Don't tarry
She refused! The king was wroth! How could this be?
Replace Vashti with another queen better than she!

The king will select the one most worthy to replace Queen Vashti.
Bring all the fair young virgins! Have them purified at the palace!
Mordecai a captive Jew raised his niece Esther a virgin lovely to see
And the king loved Esther above all other virgins, he made her Queen.

Now Haman a wicked man by subtlety got the king to decree
That all Jews should be destroyed in the land, by his hand
When Mordecai told Esther that wicked Haman thing
Esther prepared a special meal for Haman and the king
Haman thought it an honor, prepared a tree to hang Mordecai
But when Esther at the dinner told the king what Haman didn't see
She too was a Jew
The king was wroth and ordered Haman hung on his own tree.

Some of the Bible stories are pretty harsh.  Joyce

Joyce Johnson, thank you for your thoughts. I believe that Bible stories are mainly accounts of the way people failed to follow God and God's loving acts of compassion for man and woman and attempts to bring them justice and purity

All harshness originated in the hardened hearts of man in man's futile attempts to replace the love of God with man's own selfish desires. God's strong actions were always equitable consequences brought on my man. In God's Creation, all forces must stay in balance. Like Newton discovered, every action has a reaction.
