Stashing away my memories
and discarding the dried-out tree,
I think of what this year has brought
and the new one will bring to me.

I thank God for alloting me
this unstained and sparkling new year.
Time to atone for erring ways
as Two thousand and two draws near.

Two thousand one brought me good fun,
our family a baby girl;
bitter sadness for our nation,
where grave terrors and dangers swirl.

But through it all, God's been there
comforting and taking good care;
granting wisdom to our leaders
who are leading us from despair.

Poet friends I hadn't met before
this March of Two thousand and one.
Please bless them and protect them all,
Until Two thousand two is done.

Thanks to the Lord for His favors
and as this brand-new year begins,
we thank Him too for his promise,
to forgive and take away sins.

Even in the midst of turmoil we still have so much to be thankful for and especially for new beginnings which are ours with each new day. May the New Year bring many new beginnings!
