She Brought us Joy

Our mother died when I was small.
I don't remember her at all.
My sisters always said that she
Was beautiful and I can see
In pictures that they saved, it's true.
I hardly missed her as I grew,
But when my father said he planned
To ask a lady for her hand,
We were alarmed and then she came
And life was never quite the same!

We didn't know what we had missed!
Or what it felt like to be kissed
Before we drifted off to sleep.
Her promises were made to keep.
We didn't know how arms would feel
That held you close and helped to heal
The many wounds of growing years.
Someone to share your times of tears.
She brought a joy to every day
And never passed a chance to say
How dear we were and all the while,
Her love for us showed in her smile.
We blossomed underneath her care
And every night we said a prayer,
That God, who brought her to our door,
Would let her stay forevermore!

Greetings, and wow. this poem made me think. Was there a peaceful "let go" of the past memory, or did this bring more beauty to the "new member" as time progressed. i read this and many things came to mind. my feelings were mixed. never being in this situation, i wondered if... hmm? thank you for this. -Lord Kelath

This is beautiful ... My mother died when I was two.  In the small period of time that we were together, my mother took hundreds of photographs of me and kept very scrupulous records of every event in my life ... What this tells me is that my mother loved me very much ... and that has been a wonderful knowledge to take with me through life.  God bless you and thank you for posting this poem.  -Bob

Lord Kelath:  Thanks for reading this poem. It is actually written about my grandmother, who talked to me so many times about her step-mother and how it opened a new world for her.

This is the most heartwarming poem I have ever read. How lucky you were that she came into your life after your loss. Merry Christmas to you. Floria

Betty Lou, What a refreshing insight on step-mothers. Your grandmother was so very lucky to have found that love in another woman after losing her own mom. And what a great favor she did by sharing that with her family. Lovely poem. Cheryl

This is a beautiful tribute to three women who have made such an impact on your life.  How fortunate that you all had one another to love and to honor in such a special way.  God Bless.  Linda

Trillium (I'm sorry I dont know your real name yet)

Well, I dont get teary very often, but somehow this was the poem I was supposed to read today.  I love it, I don't know how to express why, except you made me think about moms and daughters and the different relationships we have with different people-- I guess I didn't realize how much this is a subject of my life right now.  Anyway, sorry to ramble, but you hit a good spot in my heart today, so thanks!

Joyce:  Thanks for your comments.  I guess I should have mentioned  at the start of the poem, that this was about my grandmother and not me. She talked so much to me about her step-mother and suddenly one day, it became a poem.

Floria:  I appreciate your comments.  Sorry that I didn't explain, I was writing about my grandmother. I was not close to my own mother and I have thought so much about the stories my grandmother told me, concerning her wonderful step-mother.  Glad you enjoyed the poem.

unwritten:  Welcome to Passions!  I will look for your work.  Thanks for your comments on the poem.  Sadly, not all of us are blessed with a step-mother, to carry on when we lose our own. I hope your time with your mother gave you many wonderful memories.

Beautiful poem. It brings tears to my eyes, because I am a stepmom. It sounds like some have a wonderful experiance as a blended family. Lots of challenges going on in mine, but this gives me a bit of hope and peace.
Thank you for sharing.

Hugs,
Deb

Deb:  Thanks for your comments and I'm glad this poem held special meaning for you. this is my grandmother I am writing about. I was never close to my own mother, more's the pity!  I too am a stepmom and it has gone amazingly well. I feel really blessed in that respect.  Happy New Year to you and your family.
