I remember a time and place
That once was so far away
And if I could only return there,
To that sacred place of refuge
My life would forever be in glee
But you see,
That is never an option,
For that place is in the past and is caste
Into the stone of memory and instead
I am thrust into a future journey over peaks
Into deep valleys and up atop the peaks again.
The journey is a treacherous quest
One that I may lose all that I have gained
Including all that is sane
But that is a risk I must take,
Because a stone is no one’s friend
Just a marker on the way,
To keep us from straying.
Can you understand what I am saying?

Yes we all wish we could go back to the carefree times, but the future is a challenge we should be glad to meet.  Very nice poem.  Joyce
