I'm thankful to my mom and dad
For the great childhood that I had.
We didn't have so many toys,
But there were lots of other joys.
Dad was a farmer, planting seeds
To provide us with our daily needs.
Mom planted too, the seeds of love,
Germinating from up above.
She taught us to love each other,
Have respect for one another.
We've kept those feelings still today,
Though childhood days are far away.
We went to church and Sunday School
Where we were taught the Golden Rule.
So many times our mama cried,
If we were bad, or if we lied.
She didn't teach without regard,
That growing up is truly hard.
We loved her and wanted to be
As gentle and as kind as she.
My brothers never made me cry,
The four of them older than I.
My gentle dad taught them to be
Protectors of my mom and me.

A child who's raised with loving care,
A happy child beyond compare.
She'll want to share the love she knew
And teach it to her children too.
What goes around will come around
And other happy children found.
When a much better world is had,
It all started with Mom and Dad.

Joyce:  Such a loving poem in memory of your parents and your childhood.  You obviously were very fortunate and had much love in your life. I wish it were true for everyone.

Joyce... A really great tribute.
You were so very lucky to have had parents that cared enough to instill in you some great values and I hope you pass them on to others...Paul

A loving tribute to your mum & dad and I loved the last couple of lines the best, so true these words are, so very lovingly and well penned.
