~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following piece is in answer to a challenge.  I will attempt to find a way to edit in the painting, however, in the mean time and/or the event I'm unsuccessful, you may view the painting at www.voy.com/1001  under the heading August Painting Challenge.  Be sure you scroll down to the first time it is indicated, and August 1 posting by Freddie.  It's a fantastic painting, so I do hope you'll check it out.
Final Exam
Virginia Salter
oh you Pharisees and Sadducees you think you are so wise,
in order to protect the world, you claim it’s all a guise
you stand there in self-righteousness, gloating, plotting reign
as the crowd and Roman soldiers look for someone full to blame.
your plan, so diabolical, you treat Him with disdain;
you fear that He will overtake the right to your domain.
to do Him in is quite your goal, you plot, you scheme, you brew,
you offer silver pieces to do your deed for you
and then upon that darkened day, you place Him ‘fore the crowd
handing Him to Caesar feeling oh so proud
Caesar sends Him back for he can find no fault
even Pilot washes hands, ceding Him to the tumult
inching through the hordes, instigators giving voice
agitating listeners until they make their choice,
“Crucify, crucify, undo the deeds He’s done.
Release our precious Barabbas and slay this bogus One!”
yet, in just a few more hours, you’ll see the light of day
in the blackness and the quaking of one horrendous, horrid play
the sky will grow black, the earth will shake and roll
and heaven will have had its way, beyond the cock’s crow
the chains of hell will be loosed, the saints ever will be blest
and this Holy One, God’s wondrous Son, will have stood the final test
Looks like a Raphael........?  Your poem compliments the painting wonderfully.  Your words are woven into a beautiful poem that truly captures the historical sequence of events that led to Jesus' crucifixion.  Now, that is one final exam that I would hate to face.... makes mine look like a piece of cake.  Great poem.  -Bob
Thanks, Bob, so very much.  I'll tell you when I saw this painting challenge of the month, I could hardly contain myself to get musing on it.  It didn't take too long either. Of course, I know the 'rest' of the story.  and so do you!!!
Thank you White Dove.  I was totally inspired by the painting.
Now, I've met 3 people that think the being in white is a woman.  I can understand their thinking, but there just seems to be too many things in the painting that point to Christ.
That is who I saw when I first viewed it.  What did you think?
LOL....when I first looked at it, I thought it to be Christ as well.
But when I looked a bit harder, I too saw a women.
What's important, is what you saw first. Look at the terrific poem that's come out of it!   It could certainly be portrayed as Christ standing there and the crowds around Him.
