Once There Was Heaven Once there was heaven and then there was light Then there was earth and a man came in sight Then came a woman deciding the plight That grew in a garden of wrong and of right There was a man who would build him an arc On faith and belief he would boldly embark A dove flew the ocean and left him a mark A branch that had grown out of olive tree bark There was a Child who came to this world Voices of angels from heaven were hurled Promise of Love was so gently unfurled In a stable where Jesus was tenderly curled First there was heaven and then there was light There was a Savior born into the night Who spoke of God’s love, His forgiviness and might That we may be saved from a far deeper plight There was a flower about to unfold There was a warbler who sang loud and bold There was a sunset of crimson and gold Things of God’s splendor that I would behold All that I witness is full of God’s Grace All that is spendid revealing His face There is woodland, a green peaceful place Where I often pray in a soft shadowed space I see the stars in the middle of night Shining upon me and twinkling bright This is God’s glorious gift of delight First there was heaven and then there was light Elizabeth Santos |
