(Written on a recent trip along the Umpquaa River in southern Oregon)

Along the Umpquaa Valley,
On the road out to the sea,
The Lord has planted flowers,
For travelling folk like me.
The golden glow of gorses
And white Shasta daisies too,
While tall and stately foxglove
Abounds in every hue.
From white through pinks and purples,
The belled spires proudly rise
Above the other flowers,
As though reaching for the skies.
The wild blackberry bushes,
Are a-foam with blossoms, white,
And all of these together,
Make a truly lovely sight.
It fills my heart with gladness
That He cares so graciously,
He plants the land with flowers
And this gift of scenery!

Betty; This is beautiful and so gloriously vivid! Ellie

wonderful rendition of that beautiful valley

I do so love foxglove, I'm not familiar with gorses.

did you happen to get to the west end and see the Umpqua River Lighthouse?  It's an absolutely beautiful, pristine lighthouse.

doesn't our Master Gardener give us such wonders!

The beautiful picturesque floral valley you so vividly describe, is but a reflection of the Master Gardeners Handiwork, and loving attention to detail, and true beauty.  Thank you for sharing your experience in such a lovely way.  Makes me want to plan a trip to see it myself.
      I enjoyed this much,

VAS:  We did go to the lighthouse, plus Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head.  Liked them all. Especially intrigued with the story of the ghost at Yaquina Bay, named Muriel. Wonder if it really happened??

Gorse is a bright yellow, sprawling sort of bush that spills down hillsides everywhere at this time of year along the coast and the valleys.  Some people call it "Scotch Broom"

Thanks for commenting.

David:  I hope you do get a chance to visit southern Oregon sometime, in June, when the wildflowers are so spectacular!  The river valleys, especially, are lovely.

Thanks for your remarks.

WOW!!! When I was reading this I felt like I was actually there with you seeing everything God has given us here on earth. Not many people are able to do that to me. This was an exquisite poem and is going straight to the library.

scout:  It's worth the trip!  A beautiful part of Oregon, especially in the early summer or fall after the trees start to turn.

scout:  Well, you are quite a long ways from Oregon, but I hope you make there one day. It's a beautiful country along the river valleys and on the Coast.
