God has planted kindness in the heart of each loved child. It is only when we're older that the weeds begin to grow. The tales we tell on others will keep the waters riled, And may muddy up somebody's life and bring unneeded woe. What if there were a price to pay for every word we said, Would we think a bit more carefully, before it passed our lips? That piece of evil gossip, would we hold it back instead, Or all of the name calling and the spiteful little quips? If we were charged a dollar, would we stay that hateful phrase? Would we know that only loving words were worth the big price too? Might we come to the conclusion, that everybody pays, When we speak without much thinking, as we've been apt to do? Well if truth be told, the price is high for every lie we tell. It will likely hurt someone we love, or as yet don't even know. And that titillating story that we tell so very well, Will cost much more than money, when it bombs right back and so. We should get ourselves a slotted box and put our dollar in, When we've repeated gossip or passed on a hateful word. When it's full we'll give to charity in payment for our sin. It will be a better world when unkind words are no more heard. By: Joyce 5/20/01 [This message has been edited by Joyce Johnson (edited 05-21-2001).] |

Yes, gossip hurts, and it can even be the unnessary truth repeated to people who have no need to know. Judge not less you be judged certainly applies. |

Joyce, This is written with such depth and insight. I enjoy reading poems which provoke a change from within. That's the power of poem, in the positive. Keep a hole in the top of your head so God can drop some more revelation into your spirit...*smiles* The essences of all that is important in life...starts with you. |

Joyce what an insightful way to put this. Paying a dollar I know would certainly make many people stop and think before they gossip. Wonderful reminder! <*\\\>< |
