No roadways mar your verdant banks,
Nor scale your hills of green.
No drifts of smoke across your skies
Or signs of man, are seen.
Bird voices call, the air is sweet
With scent of marsh and pine.
A muskrat swims from out the reeds.
His fur is thick and fine.
The mountains soar with rugged grace
And on their tops still show,
In ragged patches, here and there,
The last of winter's snow.
I hope this lovely spot will stand.
Wild eyes alone will see,
Or someone who will cherish it,
A trespasser, like me!

It brought to mind Alaska. One place of great beauty I'd love to visit before I die.

You brought me a remarkable scene and serene place to be this morning.

Thanks for joining the challenge!

Thank you all for commenting on this poem. It is actually written about Upper Priest Lake in Northern Idaho.  The only way to get into the lake is by hiking about 5 miles, or taking a boat through a 3 mile thoroughfare from Lower Priest Lake.  Either way is a wonderful experience!

Trillium,

Looked it up on the map and I think I've got an idea of where you are referring... Sounds very secluded and close to nature.  What a quiet and soul restoring place to hang out.  I believe you met the challenge very well.  Bob <><

Bob:  Thanks for your remarks.  It's nice that you looked it up on a map.  Not many people have heard of it.  The upper lake is so secluded and natural.  You have to hike in or go in by boat through a 3 miles thoroughfare, so keeps a lot of people out and it's a "pack it in, pack it out" area.  I have never seen any litter there. It's surrounded by mountains and the lake is actually in a basin.  We always see many kinds of wildlife........including grizzly bears, which we saw from a boat, fortunately.
They are rather formidable looking!  I would like to go there every year, but it's not always possible and I'm always afraid it won't be as the last time I saw it.  So far, it is.
