This is a poem I posted last Easter..I wanted to share it again! Jesus said to Peter and John, "go and get the passover meal ready". Luke22:8 The Baker This day in Jerusalem as I was baking the unleavened bread for the passover meals, two men approached the stall. While waiting on another customer, I overheard their conversation. They spoke of this man called Jesus, and the miracles He performed. The next day I saw the crowds, and joined to see the cause. I stood next to this man John, that I sold bread to yesterday. He said, "they are to crucify my Lord". As I watched Him pass, carrying the cross, my heart was touched, I knew not why. He paused and looked into my eyes, spoke these words to me, "Your hands have baked the very bread that became my flesh to save the world". I knew He spoke the truth, astounding as it was. His eyes were filled with sorrow, yet shone of love and truth. I knew that I had found my Lord on this sorrowful of days. So through it all I lingered, witnessed all His pain. Wept my tears of penance, vowed my life to Him. On sunday morn I heard the shouts. The tomb is empty. He is risen! My heart was filled with joy! My promise made that very day. The only bread I'd make, would be to feed the hungry souls with the Bread of Life each day, and tell them how He gave His life, that we might learn to live and love, and follow in His Way. A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. [This message has been edited by ellie LeJeune (edited 04-12-2001).] |

Ellie, I wasn't around the first time your poem was posted so I am especially thankful that you posted again. What a splindid Easter poem. Who would have imagined, but you, the significance of the Baker who baked the bread to represent the body of Jesus during the last supper. This was such a treat to read the Baker's rendition of the Easter story. In my opinion, this poem could be a "Spiritual Journeys" tradition worthy of posting every year. I loved it!!!!!!! Have a wonderful Easter my friend, Bob <>< |

Ellie, I love how this poem is written in first person as a character in a biblical narrative. Very Creative. Ever heard of Don Francisco? I'm sure you've heard the song of his, "He's alive", with words written from the vantage of sorrowful (then exultant) Peter. Many of his other songs use the same approach as well. When done well it is very powerful. Anyway this reminded me somewhat of his songs for some reason. Enjoyed! Stephen. [This message has been edited by Stephanos (edited 04-18-2001).] |
