*This is one my translations from Russian of a poem by Boris Pasternak. "Magdalene" appeared in the novel, Dr. Zhivago.

Comes night, my demon seems impatient,--
My punishment for past offense.
The memories of dissipation
That drain my heart are still intense.
A slave to men’s imagination,
I was a fool, who had no sense,
And streets were then my habitation.

I’m left with minutes of sensation
Before Your path shall reach its ends.
But in the span of their duration,
Upon the brink, I drop, entranced,
My life without hesitation,
As though a jar out of my hands.

Without You, where would I be,
My Savior and my Instructor,
If late at nights, eternity
Was not out there to wait for me,
Just like the rookie seemingly,--
A customer that I’ve attracted.

But, pray, do tell me what is vice,
And sin, and death, and hell, and burning,
When right before their very eyes,
Like trees, we grafted in our lives
Through my immeasurable yearning?

And Jesus, when Your feet I press
Against my knees with gentle movement,
I’m only learning to caress
The heavy cross against my chest,
I reach to You and feel so blessed,
Preparing You for the entombment.

I'm very impressed by this work.  I read it twice just because it was such a pleasure.

Master,

Though read before, I felt compelled to bring your poem back up for approaching Easter gives this emotional incapsulation of yours a bit more meaning.... Magdalene is one of my favorite Biblical representatives and I believe that you have captured her heart very well.  God Bless You, Bob <><
